Spectacular Cross Country Results!

Over the past two months some of our best Year 4-8 runners have been competing in a number of cross country events around the Wellington region.

Western Zones was a great success. We took 30 runners (6 from each year group), where the top 10 in age group would make it through to Interzones. Well done to all of the girls who competed, it was great to see you all out there supporting each other.

We had 9 girls make it through to Interzones, which is a great accomplishment by Marsden. These girls competed at Grenada North Park. This competition works the same way, where the top 10 in each age group get through to Regionals, where they compete for Wellington. Well done to Ruby Barton (Y8), Maddy Coyle (Y8), Zoe Hannah (Y7) & Zoe Cunningham (Y4) for their amazing results at Interzones.

These 4 then competed at Regionals on Tuesday 5th July in Waikanae. The girls were up against about 70 other runners in their respective year groups from 140 schools around the Wellington region, and ended up with some very impressive results. The highlight of the day was Ruby Barton coming 3rd in Year 8s, so has been selected for the Inter-Regional Cross Country team, where she will be competing against teams from Tasman, Canterbury and South Canterbury. Maddy and Zoe Cunningham both placed 12th in their races so are reserves for the Inter-Regional Cross County team. Zoe Hannah placed 30th in the Year 7 race which is also an excellent result. Well done to all of the girls over the last month or two who have been out there in the cold and the mud! A great effort by our Marsden girls.
