2023 Junior Pentangular Tournament

On the last Sunday of the holidays and the first Monday of Term 3, 23 Year 8-10 students headed over to Masterton to compete in the Junior Pentangular Tournament, held between St Matthew’s, Woodford House, Iona College, Nga Tawa and Marsden. We had a football team and a netball team compete, and both represented Marsden extremely well.

Our netballers were undefeated throughout the tournament, so held onto the Junior Pent Netball trophy that Marsden has now retained since 2012! The team had two really close games against Iona and Woodford, where they really had to work hard to hold on to their lead. Cool heads and determination helped them to secure the wins.

Our football team competed in extremely difficult conditions, with the cold and rainy weather making for a very boggy pitch to play on. On Sunday they had a great draw against St Matthew’s, finishing up 3-3 after some great team efforts to get those goals. Monday was a bit tougher, with a few injuries and smaller team numbers leading to two losses. However, we saw some moments of brilliance from the team and the younger players really stepped up when needed.

Marsden ended up 3rd equal overall, and a huge congratulations to Sophia and Paige for finishing as the MVPs for the football team and netball team respectively. Thank you to the coaches and managers of the teams, as well as all of the parents who came along to watch the students compete in their chosen sports.
